On Friday, October 6th from 10 am to 4pm and Saturday, October 7th from 10 am to 1 pm, Mathews Memorial Library, along with the Mathews County Historical Society, will host community scan days in the Chesapeake Room of the library. This will be an opportunity for community members to have their family photographs, family Bibles, and documents digitized at no charge in an effort to preserve local history. Participants may receive a digital copy of their items.

The community scan days are vital to preserving access to the rich materials and stories of our Mathews community as well as making these materials accessible to researchers through digitization.

Only paper documents and photographs no larger than 11 inches by 17 inches, plus photo negatives and slides, will be digitized. If items brought to the event cannot be scanned at that time for any reason, participants will receive information on how to schedule a follow-up appointment for additional assistance.

Participants are encouraged to pre-register by clicking the Schedule A Time link below or by contacting the library at 804-725-5747. Additional information can be obtained by contacting Becky Barnhardt at the library or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
