MATHEWS MEMORIAL LIBRARY
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
March 9, 2021

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairman James Pavik at 5:04 pm on 3/9/2021.

ATTENDING:  James Pavik, Steve Wilson, Nancy Fisher, and Sue Jennette, Also present were Bette Dillehay, Director, and Joanna Ball, FOL President.  Absent were Jackie Ingram, Carolyn Taylor and Dana Brown.

RECOGNITION:  Jim Pavik presented Steve Wilson with a letter of recognition for his exemplary service to the Board.  Steve served for a total of eight years.  His professionalism and leadership have been deeply appreciated. 

MINUTES: The minutes of the January 12, 2021 board meeting were approved as presented

REPORT FROM THE DIRECTOR:  (See attached, including Financial Report)

REPORT FROM THE FRIENDS:  Joanna Ball reported the Spring Meeting is in planning stage and will be held in April with a date to be determined.  Community response to the reopening of the store has been positive.   Sales are brisk.  Membership remains around 500, with membership fees remaining at $5 per year or $50 for a lifetime membership.

OLD BUSINESS:  

Rachael Musick has been unable to return to work due to her injuries from an accident. Carol Owens and Maude Donovan continue to cover her weekend shifts.    

The Hotspot Rental Program is very successful.  All twenty-five units are checked out with 13 people on the waiting list.  The Broadband Advisory Board has offered to assist in finding funding sources for continuing and/or expanding the service.  This program is funded through December 31, 2021.

AARP tax preparation assistance continues but they recently advised that all appointments are filled through tax season.  

NEW BUSINESS –

Jim announced Alexis Foster has agreed to join our library board.  Mr. Foster is the current principal of Mathews Elementary School and the former principal of Mathews  High School.  The appointment is in process and awaiting approval from the Board of Supervisors.

Bette is preparing a document to describe a “Story Book Walk” program for young readers in our community, using an outdoor venue.  A possible location is being considered but approvals will be needed.  More details will be available at our May meeting.
