Lemonade Lecture -
Where the Sea Meets the Shore - July 29
What forces drive the ocean currents?
If you put a message in a bottle, can you guess where it will be
found? Scientists know that by
recording the location where the bottle was released and where it was found,
we can understand movement in the ocean.
Listening to a visitor from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science
(VIMS), we will learn about waves, tides, currents and why they are crucial
to sailors and creatures that live in the sea.
We will also learn how trash that gets into the Bay and the oceans is
harmful. Belinda Blowfish joins
the VIMS scientist in sharing concern about what is harmful and helping us
better protect our nautical neighbors.
Tales To Be Told
- Surprises in Store - July 30
Find a place to sit and listen to the stories of the wonderful treasures
that wash out of the oceans into our rivers and bays and up on the beaches.

Creative Activities -
Treasure Boxes - July 31
Even if you have a place to store your treasures, you will have fun creating
a box to hold the treasures you may find when we go to the beach on the last
day of our summer adventure. At
the Bay School, you will create a box with your very own special design.
Discovery Day - To the
Beach "The Sea Meets the Shore" - August 1
On this, our last day of visiting with our nautical friends and enjoying a
picnic on the beach, you may discover a treasure to keep forever.
Perhaps it will be a conch shell that lets you hear the ocean roar
when you hold it to your ear. It
might be a piece of colorful sea glass that just fits in your treasure box
or possibly the perfect shell with shades of pink and pearl.
Whatever treasure you find, we hope it will remind you of the fun
you’ve had meeting your nautical neighbors.
We also hope it will remind you to do your part to keep our oceans
clean and healthy for those who live in it.
