African American Trailblazers Multi-Media Contest

In celebration of Black History Month, Mathews Memorial Library is pleased to sponsor a multi-media contest spotlighting the extensive and important contributions made by Black Americans to American culture, both locally and nationally. Each submission should explain why and how the person they have selected affects American culture.

Cash prizes will be awarded in each category .

Essay – a 250 word essay about their chosen person.

Speech – A timed speech of 3-5 minutes.

Art – Students may chose the medium to create their own work.

Audio/Visual Presentation – In this format the student may chose to create a video, or a power point presentation about their figure.

Open to ages 10-18

All entries must be submitted by February 22nd and those who elect to participate in the categories of speech or an audio/visual presentation must submit a copy of their work on the 22nd and be prepared to present on Friday, February 26th. One individual will be selected based on student’s presentations as having had the greatest impact on American culture. This individual will be highlighted in our celebration of Black History at the library. Each entry will be judged based on originality, creativity and excellence.

Winners in all categories will be announced Friday February 26th.
