HOW TO FIND US

Go Online

With Your

Laptop Computer

At The Library

If Your Personal Laptop Has A Web Browser You Can Connect

To The Internet At The Library Using Either:

Plug-In:

There is a laptop station available for public use in the Adult Wing.

A PC Ethernet network card or a USB plug and play port is required.

Wireless (Wi/Fi):

You can connect your wireless laptop from most locations within the library.

An 802.11b or 802.11g wireless network card or integrated wireless required.

Cost?

Internet access for laptop use is free for registered library patrons.

Printing?

You can not print directly from your personal computer, but you can save to

disk and then use a library computer to print.  Printouts are 10 cents per page.

Filtering?

The library’s wireless network is not equipped to block sites.  If required,

filtering software must be provided by the patron on his or her laptop.

Getting Started

  • You must accept the Mathews Memorial Library’s Internet Use Policy.

  • Sign in at the Adult Circulation Desk.

  • For plug-in connections go to the laptop station and plug in an available patch cable to your laptop’s network card or use the USB cable if you do not have an available network card.

  • For wireless connections:

    • The SSID should be set to mmlwireless

    • The network mode should be infrastructure, not adhoc.

    • To facilitate a secure connection you will need to enter a WEP Key.  The WEP Key is changed periodically, so ask for it at the desk.

  • Your network configuration should be set for DHCP by setting TCP/IP to Obtain IP Address Automatically.  It should not be necessary to change any other network settings.  Most likely DHCP is already configured correctly.

  • You may plug your laptop’s power supply into an available electrical outlet to conserve battery power.

Problem?

Please see the library staff.  They will assist you as time permits.  However, the

Mathews Memorial Library assumes no responsibility for your personal computer

hardware or software as a result of using the library’s internet connection.

Library staff can not plug in, reconfigure or in any way operate your personal

     computer
