Internet Search Engines:

When to use: You should use an internet search engine when searching for specific information, searching more than one topic at once, or when you want to make sure you see each reference to your topic on the Internet. Otherwise, use the Internet Subject Directories below.  Keep in mind that these search engines offer advanced search options and more specific information at their sites.  You can access the individual sites by clicking directly on their name.  You can search several popular engines at once using MetaCrawler.

To search the Internet using Google, enter your search term(s) here:

Internet Subject Directories\Portals:

When to use : You should use an internet subject directory when you are not sure what you need, your subject is very broad such as "computers", or you just want to see what is available.  Subject directories only contain information about Web sites that they have catalogued, not every reference to your subject on the Internet.
